Duval County State Attorney’s Office
Location: Jacksonville, FL
Client: City of Jacksonville / Duval County State Attorney
Teamed together with AECOM, VIA Concepts served as the local associate architect and the on-site construction administration consultant for the renovation and restoration of an existing 5-story 1930s courthouse building to house our modern State Attorney’s Office. An intensive renovation project, VIA Concepts had to consider the new functions of the Courthouse within the restraints of the existing reinforced concrete structure. Program includes a large multifunctional gathering space, other various sized meeting areas, office spaces throughout, and the renovation of important historical areas including two 1930s courtrooms and elevator lobbies.
The project not only addressed the complete interior renovation but also addressed new entry paths, re-configuration of the interior spaces and accessibility issues, and bringing the building up to current code and ADA requirements. Retaining certain historical aspects of the building while updating the building with the latest office technology was essential to the project’s success. A new secure, enclosed connector bridge between this project and the neighboring courthouse is a major project feature which ensures the safety and security of employees and visitors while traveling to the courthouse.
