Fernandina Beach Marine Welcome Center
Location: Fernandina Beach, FL
Client: City of Fernandina Beach
The City of Fernandina Beach’s Marine Welcome Center project included the construction of a 800 sf Marine Welcome Center, the renovation of an existing 1,200 sf bath house and laundry facility, and an engineering assessment of three floating docks for rehabilitation. Going beyond the city’s primary goal of being more hospitable to and improving amenities for visiting boaters, VIA Concepts’ final design solution was to place the new Marine Welcome Center adjacent to the existing Bath House, providing easier operation and control for the marina staff. The scheme also preserved as many open views to the water as possible, which was important to the client and Fernandina Beach residents. The new buildings incorporate facade elements from the City’s existing waterfront buildings, both historical and industrial, helping the new welcome center to blend in and complement its surroundings. The Marine Welcome Center was an integral part of Fernandina Beach’s larger waterfront master plan that included many improvements such as boardwalks, landscaping, an amphitheater, boat ramp, recreational venues, and new parking areas.
