Jacksonville International Airport CBP/FIS Connector
Location: Jacksonville, FL
Client: Jacksonville Aviation Authority
The goal of the Jacksonville International Airport (JIA) Federal Immigration Services (FIS) Connector project was to have a physical connection between the Passport Control Area and the non-secure area of the airport. Previously, passengers from incoming international flights were bussed from Immigration Services to the non-secure front of the airport to collect checked baggage and/or transfer flights. With the addition of this connector, passengers walk indoors directly from the Immigration Services area to the non-secure part of the airport. The design had to work around the existing concourse configuration without intruding on existing spaces. Teamed together with Reynolds Smith and Hills (RS&H) as the prime managing architect and architect of record, VIA Concepts designed an attractive indoor corridor that complements the existing look of the airport.
