OUTLINE : |
Tokyo, Japan - 2000
International Competition
The challenge was to create a small public space utilizing glass. Time is of essence in today's society. There is a dynamic correlation between human action and time. This is especially evident in urban areas. Small places can oftenprovide pauses for modern hectic routines: A place to rest, talk with friends, meet new neighbors, and perhaps recharge.
The solution was to strategically deploy a network of public glass structures that promotes social interaction and have multiple civic functions. Each transparent structure houses residential postal kiosks, is a bus stop, serves as an emergency broadcast center, provides shelter from the elements, and reinforces community identity. It is a social enclave to residents and visitors.
